Someone hits their own ceiling, can't hold the scale, and instead of "yeah, that's hard for me," they flip it to "nobody can imagine that" like the limit was universal not theirs. Then they lean on some crutch, "I have a minor in whatever", "You can't count to a billion", so they never have to actually try past their own perceptual wall. It's not about being right. It's just a different cognitive fashion, and they'd rather cap it than stretch toward it.
