A cart rattles through a snowy forest.
For several seconds, nobody aboard the Titan says anything.
Then a human voice comes through the recovered audio:
“Hey, you. You’re finally awake.”
The Princeps slowly narrows her eyes.
“Moderati.”
“Yes, Princeps?”
“Why did it address me?”

Another prisoner in the cart begins speaking. Names. Imperials. Rebels. Executions.
The Princeps leans closer.
“Imperials.”
“Yes.”
“Civil war.”
“Yes.”
“Ancient Terra.”
“Apparently.”
“And we recovered this from a machine that had been dormant for eleven thousand years?”
“I... do not believe it did.”
